Jodi Arias was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole earlier today for the 2008 murder of her ex-boyfriend Travis Alexander.

The almost seven-year case—which has drawn worldwide attention as well as a Lifetime movie—has finally come to a rather public end.

Four members of Alexander's family were present in court today, and spoke to Judge Sherry Stephens before she announced the terms of the sentence.

Arias also spoke in court today, standing by her original testimony and accusing the police of altering details about their findings.

She also apologized to Alexander's family members, saying, "The most important thing I want to say is that I'm very sorry for the enormous pain I caused to the people who loved Travis. I'm truly disgusted and repulsed with myself."

The sentencing comes just one month after a jury was deadlocked on whether or not to give Arias the death penalty.

Arias will begin serving her sentence in a maximum-security facility at a prison just outside of downtown Phoenix. Should prison officials decide that Arias' behavior is good, she will be moved to a lower-security location.

And just moments after learning of Arias' fate, people who have been following the case since day one took to Twitter to share their thoughts, feelings and concerns.
