A judge handed down the maximum penalty in the Real Housewives of New Jersey husband's ID fraud case Thursday, barred Joe from driving for two years and fining him $10,000 for trying to use his brother's ID to obtain a driver's license while his was already suspended.
Joe asked Passaic County Judge Adam E. Jacobs if he was at least allowed to move the cars around in his own driveway, and the judge—who called Joe's driving record "truly mind-boggling"—said no.
"If you so much as back down your driveway... that will constitute a violation of the conditions of your release, of your bail, and it will result in you being remanded immediately to Passaic County Jail," Jacobs warned him.
Joe's guilty plea to unlawful use of an ID and impersonation also came with an 18-month jail sentence, but he is allowed to serve that concurrently with his 41-month federal prison term for bankruptcy fraud and failure to file income tax returns.
His "mind-boggling" driving record reportedly includes 39 license suspensions. Jacobs said that the father of four's "general disrespect for the law" made him inclined to reject the plea deal, but he allowed for it because Joe is the primary caregiver to his and Teresa's daughters while she's serving her 15-month sentence for bankrupcty fraud.
Joe's attorney, Miles Feinstein, told reporters that his client remained "upbeat" despite the obvious hardship involved in losing his ability to drive his kids around.
Giving his first TV interview since Teresa was locked up, Joe told Extra recently that he was doing his best to "stay strong" for the children.
"Her being away definitely makes me appreciate her way more, a lot more, and you know everything she did," he said.
