That was a lot of Voice tonight, guys, but somehow we survived.

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for two of the six contestants who took to the stage to battle it out in some epic last-ditch efforts to prove their musical worth.

First though, we had to get through the tail end of the blind auditions, which is always a bittersweet time in the season. On one hand, things are about to finally get a little interesting. On the other hand, no more spinning chairs.

The last few blinds did produce a few promising recruits for each of the coaches' teams, including an impressive belter named Caitlin who headed to Team Pharrell and a glasses-clad crooner named Nathan who landed on Team Adam.

Then, finally, the battle rounds began with three battles to kick off the first night.

On Team Adam Levine, Tonya Boyd-Cannon beat out James McNiece on "PYT," and gave us an emotional moment with her family. Unfortunately for James, he headed home without being stolen by another coach.

The other battle losers were a little luckier. After being defeated in a truly awesome battle against Mia Z. with the song "Put the Gun Down," for Team Pharrell, Ashley Morgan was stolen by Christina Aguilera, who pointed out that the girl is vocally flawless. On Blake Shelton's team, Brian Johnson defeated Joshua Davis on "Knockin' on Heaven's Door," and Joshua was quickly stolen by Adam.

All in all, a solid start to the Battle Rounds, which continue tomorrow night when The Voice returns at 8 p.m. on NBC.
