COVERGIRL Katy Perry was a firework on the Grammys red carpet Sunday night—partly thanks to makeup guru Jake Bailey.

The makeup artist had no idea what the singer was going to be wearing until the day of the show, resulting in an impromptu beauty look. We loved the amazing cat-eyeliner and light glossy lips. They went perfectly with her bedazzled, champagne gown.

We bet that you're dying to know how he conjured up the masterpiece so that you can rock the look at a gallery opening or for a dinner date. Well look no further, because Jake is a bona-fide member of E! Style Collective and is here to share how he pulled it all together.

Katy and I decided on a dewy rose/nude palette for the night's look. This is what I call a "balanced" look. All of the key features are in play—eyes, cheeks, and lips but one does not outdo the other. Often makeup looks are "all about the lips" or "all about the eyes" with the other features playing a supporting role. This was an ensemble cast of colors.

I matched Katy's skin with a natural beige liquid foundation and buffed a small amount evenly all over her face and neck using a flat-tipped kabuki-style foundation brush. I then lengthened and arched her brows using COVERGIRL Bombshell Pow-Der Brow & Liner by LASHBLAST in medium brown.

I began the eye look with a COVERGIRL Eyeshadow Quad in "Blooming Blushes." I started with the darkest shade of the palette first by blending it into the crease and outer corners of her eyes to elongate and add depth. I then used the second darkest shade along the middle of her lids. The third shade was placed on her inner lid and the lightest pigment was used as a highlighter on the brow bone and on the innermost corners of the eye to create a multidimensional eye in soft complementary colors.

Then I created her signature "cat-eye" using a long-lasting felt tip liner pen before giving both her top and bottom lashes two coats of COVERGIRL Full Lash Bloom Mascara.

Having finished the eyes, I touched up the skin a bit by dusting her lightly with a soft pressed powder to set.

For Katy's blush, I took the paler shades from the COVERGIRL Instant Cheekbones Contouring Blush palette and swirled it onto the apples of her cheeks for a warm glow. I used the darkest shades to accentuate her bone structure and blended the colors into the hollows of her cheeks.

I finished the look by coating her lips with "Sultry Sienna" by COVERGIRL Colorlicious, which is a warm nude lipstick and topped it all off with just a touch of COVERGIRL Colorlicious Lip Gloss in "Melted Toffee" for shine.
