That's right, Mindy (Mindy Kaling) and Danny (Chris Messina) are expecting on The Mindy Project! (The last time we were this happy? When Danny gifted Mindy and the Internet with his stripper moves in the premiere.)
The bombshell and completely show-changing reveal came at the end of Tuesday's episode of the hit Fox sitcom, which centered on Mindy attempting to find the right way to tell Danny she wanted to move to San Francicso to open her own practice...just as he bought a brownstone for them in NYC.
Right after Peter had said his super sad goodbyes set to a Simon & Garfunkel song and headed to Texas to be with Lauren (Tracy Wigfield), he called Mindy from the cab to tell her that not only was she his best friend (aww!) but that her lab results had come in, and she was pregnant!
We didn't get to see Mindy tell Danny yet, but we can't imagine that scene won't result in another priceless Danny Castellano moment, on par with tonight's hiding from earthquakes in a bike helmet. And we guess we know what Danny will be going to confession about in an upcoming episode, where we'll meet his priest, Father Francis!
A surprise pregnancy shouldn't worry fans of the couple too much as The Mindy Project did the impossible earier this season:it actually got better after their will-they-or-won't-they pairing officially got together. And Kaling tells E! News she was "never worried" about the transition because Mindy and Danny "are so fundamentally different," giving the writers endless material.
"You don't change when you start dating somebody," she says. "I just felt like if they're really good characters, why would it be boring? Because people in relationships have funny challenges, so we had faith in them."
