Patrick Dempsey Is Still Wearing His Wedding Ring After Jillian Fink Filed for Divorce! Find Out What Went Wrong

Patrick "Emotionally, for Jillian, something was missing," a source tells People

Patrick Dempsey can't run from reality.

The Grey's Anatomy actor, 49, was photographed jogging on Zuma Beach in Malibu Sunday. Dempsey, who was still wearing his wedding ring, had recently returned home from a race in Daytona Beach, Fla. Late last month, his wife, Jillian Fink, filed for divorce after 15 years of marriage. The makeup artist requested joint legal and physical of their three children: Talula, 12, and twins Darby and Sullivan, 8.

Dempsey was previously married to his manager Rocky Parker for seven years from 1987 until 1994. For Dempsey, this divorce was a last resort. "He was married and divorced before, and he has said he never wanted a divorce again because of his kids," a source says in People's Feb. 9 issue, on newsstands now.

The Can't Buy Me Love actor and Fink announced their breakup on Jan. 23.

"It is with careful consideration and mutual respect that we have decided to end our marriage," the ex-couple told E! News in a statement. "Our primary concern remains the well-being of our children, and we ask with profound gratitude that you respect our family's privacy at this very sensitive time."

Katherine Heigl, who costarred with Dempsey for five seasons on Grey's Anatomy, told Extra Thursday that she was "really sad" to learn about his recent split. "I think it's always hard to have to go through something like that so publicly," the State of Affairs actress said, calling them "both really great people."

To those who know them, the split wasn't too surprising. "It's been a long time coming. They have lived separate lives for years," a source close to the family tells People. "They are involved in the children's lives but separately. Patrick and Jillian have had disagreements for a long time. Emotionally, for Jillian, something was missing." Another insider says their personalities "could not have been more opposite."

Publicly, however, they showed no signs of turmoil. In fact, in December, Fink shared an Instagram picture of her husband's "new 'do," as well as photos from the family's "white Christmas" vacation. Eight days before announcing their breakup, Fink styled Dempsey's hair, joking, "Thanks for behaving."

The split seems to be amicable, and Dempsey is ready to move forward with his life.

"It would be nice...not to be spread so thin," he said shortly before his divorce was announced.
