It's puppy love for Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed!

The animal-loving couple attended the The World Dog Awards together at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, and there Ian was presented with the ASPCA "Dog's Best Friend Award!"

Holly Robinson Peete had the honors of introducing the Vampire Diaries hunk and awarding him with a golden fire hydrant. She praised his work for the Ian Somerhalder Foundation, a nonprofit seeking to end animal cruelty while supporting no-kill shelters and pet adoption programs.

"He's behind more adoptions than Angelina Jolie, let me tell you," she said with a laugh. "Lucky dogs!"

Ian looked as handsome as ever as he took the stage, thanking the ASPCA for bestowing him with such an honor. "Just to be here tonight, when we could all be doing anything else in the world, to be here tonight with all these furry creatures that truly impact our lives is a blessing," he said.

"It's incredible, and people who think that these animals don't affect our lives I think are a little crazy," he said, prompting laughter and cheers from the audience.

The camera cut to a beaming Nikki, sitting in the front row with a huge smile across her face. Clearly, she could not have been any prouder of her man and all he does for animals.
