The end is nigh, fellow Pawneeans.

There was a time when we thought perhaps Parks and Recreation might last forever, because why would anyone ever cancel the most perfect show in existence? Alas, something somewhere went very wrong and now we're two whole episodes into the final season of television's crowning achievement. We laughed, we cried, and cried, and cried, and took careful notes of every time we made a sound, whether it was a sob, a gasp, a guffaw, or a Swansonesque giggle. Thus, in celebration of the beginning of the end of our only reason for living, we give you the top 16 moments from the Parks and Recreation final season premiere.

–         Ron and Leslie are now mortal enemies thanks to something unspeakable called Morningstar. That reveal both shocked and saddened us, because we've never not been huge fans of their love/hate/mostly love relationship.

–         Jon Hamm showing up with the "Bird Census 1980 file," despite the fact that a) no one needed that file and b) he had already been fired.

–         Jerry plays Mailman Barry on Andy's new TV show, and often gets attacked by ninjas. Also he now goes by Terry.

–         April and Andy realizing they're now "old and boring" after they plan their week around making dinner in their new slow cooker

–         Shia LaBeouf designs expensive wedding dresses in 2017, and the newly engaged Donna plans on buying one. Somehow this is not surprising.

–         Leslie pushing Ron face-first into a cake while Andy stands there pantsless.

–         Tom and Ben crying over Tom's speech that Tom didn't even end up giving.

–         April and Andy deciding to buy a haunted house, because of course they would.

–         Apparently Kevin James stars in a Jason Bourne reboot, and according to Leslie, he doesn't screw it up.

–         Councilman Jamm has been dating Tammy, and she's turning him into Ron.

–         Joan Callamezzo's new book is called "Game of Joans." Her show once consisted of her calling her ex-boyfriends while sitting on a washing machine. She is April's hero.

–         The return of Lucy! As far as Tom's ex-girlfriends go, she's one of the best, and we're always happy to see Natalie Morales on our TV screens.

–         Everyone in Chicago is in a good mood in 2017 thanks to the Cubs winning the series. Hey, anything could happen!

–         Leslie's beyond scary impression of Tammy as she and Ron mend fences for long enough to de-Tammify Jamm might go down in Parks history as one of the most amazing and terrifying moments of all time.

–         Andy's confusion over whether or not he was actually moving to Chicago to coach the Bulls/work for a non-profit was some understated yet A+ work from Chris Pratt.

–         And then, of course, one of our last images from tonight's episodes featured Tammy standing naked in the middle of the library. We simultaneously want to never see Tammy again and also see her at literally all times. The glorious Megan Mullally tends to have that effect.

NBC

All in all, that was a beautiful premiere that did little to make us feel any less sad about the fact that the show will be ending in just a little over a month. After that stellar opening episode, we were a tad unsure when it became clear we were getting a Tammy-centric episode so soon into the season, but it played out satisfyingly enough that we didn't end up minding.

So welcome back, dear show. It looks like it's going to be a pretty good month.
