Is this just the beginning for Eddie Redmayne?

Well, technically his Golden Globe win tonight for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama, was sort of a midpoint, considering he's won a host of critics' awards already for channeling Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything.

But this was his first award that means Redmayne may just be the last man standing when the Oscar winners are revealed on Feb. 22. In his way, most likely, is Michael Keaton, tonight's winner for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy, for Birdman, but...

Let's just enjoy the moment.

Redmayne certainly did, kicking his speech off by apologizing for being such a fanboy around the likes of Robert Duvall.

"Oh my god, what an extroadirnay thing," the charming British thesp began.

"Thank you to the HFPA. It is a great privilege for me to be in this room. I've had to spend most of the evening trying to prevent myself from fawning over, leching over actors I've admired. I apologize, Mr. Duvall, I haven't been entirely successful.

"But being here and being amongst this group of actors, particularly in this category, is an extraordinary thing," he continued as the camera panned to fellow nominees Benedict Cumberbatch and Jake Gyllenhaal.

"This was a huge privilege. Stephen, Jane, Jonathan and the Hawking family allowed us into their lives and entrusted us with their story, and getting to spend time with Stephen Hawking, who despite all of the obstacles put in his way has lived passionately and fully and with great humor was one of the great honors of my life. I would like to thank our producers, my wonderful director, James Marsh, who basically held my hand as I had panic attacks daily. Felicity Jones, the most formidable actress, who raised my game. My wondrous team of agents…and Hannah, my wife of about a couple of weeks ago."

Flash to the glowing Hannah Bagshawe, who looked proud as could be.

"We had to cut our honeymoon short to come to Los Angeles," Redmayne said. "The sunshine wasn't so great today, but I thank you and I thank the HFPA for giving me and us a night at the end of our honeymoon we will remember."

We have a feeling their honeymoon period wouldn't be over for quite a while.
