Matthew McConaughey deserves another Oscar…for not so much as cracking a smile during a lengthy, close-up shot in the Lincoln MKZ commercial.
The 45-year-old actor is as serious as ever in two new automobile ads—reprising his role as Mr. Smooth for the umpteenth time to showcase the luxe design of the car he's trying to sell.
In one spot, McConaughey watches the rain fall (!) as he sips his espresso in an empty café. He smiles, chuckling to himself as the last drop falls, steps into the night, where his 2015 Lincoln MKZ awaits. He gets inside and puts the roof back, ditching his "Alright, alright, alright" catchphrase in favor of a new slogan, "There we go."
In the other ad, McConaughey helps introduce the 2015 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid. "It's not about hugging trees," he says slowly. "It's not about being wasteful either."
"Just gotta find that balance," he says, looking oh-so-cool behind the wheel. "Like taking care of yourself, it takes care of more than just yourself. That's the sweet spot."
McConaughey doesn't just break out the acting skills to shill cars, though—he slathers on that Southern charm for fragrance ads, too.
