Back at it again!

Vanessa Hudgens was seen once again leaving Nine Zero One Salon in West Hollywood, this time with a decidedly shorter (and shaggier) new 'do. The star is set to begin rehearsals for her play Gigi—based on the Broadway musical that brought Audrey Hepburn worldwide attention—on Dec. 8. The show will have a four-week run at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., beginning Jan. 16.

Riawna Capri, co-owner of Nine Zero One Salon, helped Hudgens achieve this sexy, no-fuss look. The hairstylist opened up to E! News about the star's decision to get fringe.

"Vanessa really wanted to do bangs. She posted a ‘to bang or not to bang' [post] a couple days ago on her Instagram," Capri shared. (We're guessing the consensus from fans was "to bang"!)

On Thursday, the singer showed up solo to Nine Zero One Salon and spent some time discussing what she wanted with Capri.

It turns out that the red look Vanessa's had for the last few months was actually the result of extensions. Capri started by taking those pieces out and cutting with a "choppy, piecey, edgy look" in mind.

"She didn't bring in anything specific, but she definitely wanted to go for a rocker look," Capri revealed. "We're calling it a sexy shag."

The cut almost didn't stay that short, however: "She was thinking about putting in more extensions, but when we finished, she was like, ‘Oh my gosh—I love it,'" Capri said. "So she kept it natural."

The actress has been experimenting with color, length and style in recent months—sporting a long red bob in October and short brown-blond ombré style back in July. As for how long it took to get this shag into shape? Capri explains that the style was red carpet ready in no time.

"Since the red was extensions—we didn't bleach her hair or anything like that—we kept it nice and healthy," Capri said. "We gave Vanessa a nice rich chocolate brown for fall."

If you're wondering how Vanessa will rock the look during Gigi's run, the transition will be as simple as wearing a wig and pinning and her bangs back beneath it.
