It was the cover we couldn't stop ooh-ing and aww-ing over!

Last month, Kerry Washington graced the pages of Allure with the impression that she was au natural for her stunning photoshoot.

But in a new interview with the ladies of The View, the Scandal star admits that she had a little help in the beauty department for her memorable cover.

"It is a no-makeup look but I do have some makeup on," she told Rosie Perez after being complimented on her appearance. "I'm going to be honest because I think it's unfair when we tell women they should look like something that's not real."

In a behind-the-scenes video for the magazine released shortly after the cover dropped, Washington revealed beauty tips for women her age. Her most important step was to find an excellent dermatologist.

"I try not to be too high maintenance when it comes to beauty routines," she revealed. "But I've had eczema my whole life, so I've always gone to a dermatologist."

When it comes to having flawless skin, however, Washington assures women that it's okay to have a few imperfections.

"As women, we want to be perfect," she said on The View. "I'm also an only child and I'm very aware of how people see me."

She continued, "I remember when I was in college someone told me that self-reliance was a character flaw. I thought, ‘What do you mean?' I thought that's what the goal in life was, to do everything perfectly on your own. It has been a really important lesson for me in life to ask for help and just let myself be who I am."

Today, Washington is on the top of her game with a husband, baby and a fan-favorite character known as Olivia Pope.

But before you tell the actress your goals of becoming the next Olivia, she has some advice for you.

"I always say, ‘Well, that's okay if you mean everything except sleeping with married men and just drinking wine and eating popcorn,'" she joked. "If you want to dress like her, you want to talk like her, all that is fine."
