It's been a while since Katherine Heigl was on our TV screens, and that day is coming soon. Nov. 17, to be exact, and we have your first look at this new promo for NBC's State of Affairs, in which Heigl plays someone who is definitely not Isobel Stevens.
No Denny. No impromptu weddings held in prom dresses. No sex with ghosts. (At least...we're pretty sure.)
Meet Charleston "Charlie" Tucker, the president's "secret weapon" on State of Affairs. Heigl makes her return to series TV with the new buzzed-about drama as a CIA briefer. And she's not just any briefer, as the character has a very special relationship to President Constance Payton (Alfre Woodard)—she used to be engaged to her son. What happened? Not what you'd expect.
"I am going to find every last person who had anything to do with the death of my fiancé and your son, and I'm going to end every single one of their lives," Charlie Tucker says in the clip above.
The president's response? "That's my girl."
"We're really trying to show the side of the CIA that gathers all the information of the major threats facing the nation," Heigl explains.
She may be the president's secret weapon, but she's also struggling with her own issues related to the death of her fiancé. The new drama's cast also includes Adam Kaufman, Sheila Vand, Cliff Chamberlain, Tommy Savas and David Harbour.
"Something about her feels like an adult to me in ways that other roles haven't. I don't know if it's because I feel like an adult," Heigl said about her new role. "I feel like I'm finally like a legitimate grown-up with two children and a husband of almost seven years. I feel like a grown-up who has taken on a grown-up role."
This is Heigl's first series regular TV gig since Grey's Anatomy. She was also a series regular on the cult-hit Roswell.
State of Affairs premieres Nov. 17 at 10 p.m. on NBC.
