Selfie, ABC's new comedy starring Karen Gillan and John Cho, had one heck of a prophetic joke about Renée Zellweger in its "Nugget of Wisdom" episode.

The series, about Eliza Dooley (Gillan) a social media-obsessed woman who tries to rebrand herself with the help of Henry (Cho) after realizing she has no real friends, was peppered with quick jokes and references on Tuesday, but it's very timely Zellweger line raised eyebrows after the Oscar-winning actress stepped out on a red carpet and sparked major chatter about her "new look."

In a scene from the episode, Eliza helped her co-worker Charmonique (Da'Vine Joy Randolph) get ready for her high school reunion. While trying on wigs, Charmonique said: "Now he remembers me with the Mary J. Blige, but a part of me wants to flip the script and hit him with Erykah Badu."

"Mmm-hmm. I understand that instinct," Eliza replied. "But when you completely reinvent your look, you run the risk of people not knowing who the hell you are…i.e., Renée Zellweger, who still looks good…"

An image of the Oscar winner popped up on the screen. "But doesn't look a damn thing like Miss Renée Zellweger," Charmonique said.

The Bridget Jones star appeared at Elle's Women in Hollywood event to help honor Gugu Mbatha-Raw.

Zellweger's name has been trending on Twitter for a day now and the online chatter has moved on to segments on the morning news shows. The actress spoke out about the buzz around her appearance.

"I'm glad folks think I look different! I'm living a different, happy, more fulfilling life, and I'm thrilled that perhaps it shows," Zellweger, 45, told People. As for why she's addressing it, Zellweger said, "It seems the folks who come digging around for some nefarious truth which doesn't exist won't get off my porch until I answer the door."
