Given that she's an actress, you'd think Emma Stone could lie with ease. You'd be wrong.

The professional pretender played "Box of Lies" with Jimmy Fallon on NBC's The Tonight Show Tuesday. The Birdman star's earnestness was her downfall, however, as she tried unsuccessfully to trick the host. For those who haven't seen Fallon play the game against the likes of actresses Kate Hudson, Jennifer Lawrence and Kerry Washington in prior episodes, the rules are simple: each player begins by removing a box from a shelf. Without showing his or her opponent its contents, he or she must decide whether to describe its contents or invent an alternative story on the spot. The opponent then debates its veracity.

Before the game began, the 25-year-old actress referenced her last appearance on the late-night program, telling the comedian, "I love to lip sync, but I am a terrible liar, so this is a bad game for me."

Stone selected box No. 4. Before opening it, she reiterated, "I'm really gonna be bad at this game!"

She pulled out a Frozen DVD that had been frozen in a block of ice. "You know how in a deck of cards there are like three or four instruction cards that you always have to throw out before you play a game? It's like a sculpture stack of those cards in the shape of...I guess it could only be like a salamander? Or like a gecko, I guess?" Fallon called her bluff, however, after her lie became too detailed to be plausible.

Fallon chose box No. 5, which contained a mannequin arm wearing a wristwatch. "It's a plate with a tiny squirrel surfing—not on a wave, he's surfing on a piece of lettuce," he explained. Stone tried to ask a question but was rebuffed. Upon further contemplation, the Easy A star said, "You're telling the truth."

The host's reaction was priceless! Watch the clip to see his happy dance.
