Kerry Washington and hubby Nnamdi Asomugha are a very private couple, so it's not often that they're photographed out and about together.

Tuesday, however, was a rare exception when the Scandal actress and former NFL player were snapped making their way out of a New York City hotel.

Of course, it's understandable that Kerry, 37, and Nnamdi, 33, spend a good amount of time at home. After all, their daughter Isabelle Amarachi Asomugha is only 5 months old, and when mom and dad aren't working, they obviously want to be spending time with their little lady!

Last month, Kerry gushed to E! News about her "fantastic" daughter Isabelle, saying with a huge smile on on her face, "She's great. She's awesome!"

The Scandal star doesn't talk too, too much about her little girl or life at home though, though, because she likes to keep some things private. "I have girlfriends in this business who talk about their personal lives, and it works for them, and I love it. But not for me. I learned through experience that it doesn't work for me to talk about my personal life," she told Glamour magazine last year. "I've had earlier times in my career when I did talk about it. I was on the cover of a bridal magazine [she covered InStyle Wedding in 2005 before ending her engagement to actor David Moscow in 2007]...But I couldn't just turn around and say, 'I only want to talk about the good stuff, but not the bad stuff.' So I just thought, 'OK, no more.'"

Fair enough! Fortunately, though, Kerry doesn't mine telling comical stories about her own childhood. Like, for example, how she truly believed she was a mermaid when she was growing up!

"I was a really good swimmer as a kid...and I was and I am still allergic to fish, so I had this theory that it was because I couldn't eat my brethren," she revealed Tuesday on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

"But I'm more comfortable in water than I am on land," she said, adding laughingly, "and that's rare, especially for a black person...See! That is a stereotype, people, black people swim....Olivia Pope swims. Kerry Washington swims. That is my PSA for the night."
