Saturday Night Live has added a new face for season 40: Pete Davidson. E! News has confirmed the 20-year-old standup will join Michael Che as a new featured player when the sketch series returns this fall.

Davidson first hit the stage at 16 and went on to appear on MTV's Guy Code, Wild ‘N' Out and Faliosophy. He guest starred on Brooklyn Nine-Nine last season and appeared on AXS TV's Gotham Comedy Live and Comedy Central's Adam Devine's House Party. In April, Davidson appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.

Davidson joins the cast of season 40 that includes Che, Kate McKinnon, Bobby Moynihan, Cecily Strong, Aidy Bryant, Vanessa Bayer, Taran Killam, Jay Pharoah, Beck Bennett, Colin Jost, Kyle MooneySasheer Zamata and Kenan Thompson.

Last season's new additions Noel Wells, Brooks Wheelan and John Milhiser will not return. Mike O'Brien will return to the writers room, Deadline reports.

Che, a Daily Show veteran who previously wrote for SNL, will sit alongside Jost at the Weekend Update desk. Strong previously served as host alongside Seth Meyers and Jost last year. She took to her Instagram to address the shakeup.

"I don't see this as me leaving Update, just as me being on Update in a looser, goofier way that is a lot more fun for me and in a way I think I'm better at," she said. "And now I get to do features with the very funny and wonderful Michael Che! No point in being angry or sad for me for something I'm genuinely happy about! Unless you are just a person who enjoys being angry or sad. Then I guess play on, playa."

This season mark's Saturday Night Live's landmark 40th season and NBC has plans to celebrate the long-running series with several specials, including a live three-hour one on Feb. 15, 2015.

Saturday Night Live returns Sept. 27 at 11:30 p.m. on NBC with host Chris Pratt and musical guest Ariana Grande.

(E! and NBC are both part of the NBCUniversal family.)
