Keanu Reeves is hoping to put a swift end to his not so excellent legal adventure.

Attorneys for the Matrix thesp appeared in Los Angeles Superior Court Tuesday, requesting that a lawsuit filed against Reeves by a paparazzo who claims he was struck by the revved-up thesp last year be moved to mediation. (View the court docs.)

Jeffrey Redd formally made the request in court documents filed earlier this month and today asked the court for a continuance until the May 5 hearing, when he will formally move to strike the cameraman's request for sizable punitive damages.

Brazilian shutterbug Alison Silva, no stranger to celebrity encounters, filed the negligence suit against Reeves Nov. 5, stemming from an incident that went down in the parking lot of a Rancho Palos Verdes parking lot in March 2007.

Silva claims he was simply trying to shoot the actor as he pulled out of a parking space, only to be knocked down by Reeves' car, a 1996 Porsche 911. Paramedics treated Silva at the scene and transported him to a hospital; Reeves himself suffered neither injuries nor criminal charges as a result of the run-in.

In his suit, Silva alleges that his car was damaged and that he suffered severe injuries that hamper his ability to continue his shutterbug career. He's seeking reparations for the property damage, loss of earnings, medical expenses, attorney fees and undisclosed damages.
