Jesse Tyler Ferguson has no problem standing up for his husband!

At Friday's Stand Up to Cancer event, the Modern Family star opened up about Justin Mikita's past battle with the disease at such a young age.

"He was diagnosed when he was 13 and that's sort of an age when you don't really realize what's going on," Jesse explained to E! News. "He goes in once a year for his check-up to make sure he's still cancer free so he's always reminded of it."

He added, "I think it does touch him in a lot of ways. He's thrilled that I'm here and I'm definitely representing him."

Stand Up to Cancer, which was broadcast on 36 U.S. networks Friday night, supports various innovative cancer research programs.

Ariana Grande, Katie Couric, Jennifer Aniston, Sofía Vergara, Will Ferrell and countless more stars were on hand to support the important cause.

E! News has learned that since the star-studded event aired, more than $109 million has been pledged to the organization.

"When we all stand together, cancer doesn't stand a chance," executive producer Gwyneth Paltrow said in a statement. "That sense of community is what the telecast is all about."

Despite the alarming statistics surrounding cancer today, Jesse echoes Gwyneth's statements and believes more good news is on the horizon.

"It's sad in a lot of ways but it's also incredibly optimistic," he told E! News. "There's so much money being raised."
