Everyone always says that college is the best four years of your life.
But there was another four-year chunk of a small group of people's lives that will forever stick out in our memory: the four-season run of Greek.
ABC Family's critically-loved and fan-favorite drama about a group of undergrads at fictional Cyprus-Rhodes University took a realistic and compelling look at life as a Greek student, exposing what it was really like to rush a fraternity or sorority, how your brothers and sisters could change your life (for better or worse), and all the relationship and drunken shenanigans that went down between the beautiful people living in the houses on and off campus. Plus, all the themed college parties you could ever imagine!
For fans who were in a fraternity or sorority in college, Greek offered the chance to once a week take a walk down memory lane, nostalgically transporting you back to a time when your biggest concern was who you were taking to your sorority/fraternity formal, or which house you were paired with for Greek Week, or how your house was doing in intramural sports that week. For fans who weren't in college yet, it offered an honest look at what to expect should you decide to go Greek when you do arrive at college in the future. For fans who never rushed when in college for various reasons, Greek offered the once-in-a-lifetime chance to find out what fraternity and sorority life was all about, the good (lifelong friends and awesome parties), the bad (rivalries with other houses and within your own house), and the ugly (hazing). There was something for everyone.
But like college in real life, Greek came to an end after four incredible years.
On March 7, 2011, ABC Family aired the bittersweet Greek series finale, "Legacy." Obviously, spoiler alert for anyone who has yet to watch the series finale (which you absolutely should do!), but the hour tied up all loose ends and served as a true series finale, with everyone graduating from CRU—even the college-loving, real-world-fearing Van Wilder-like Cappie—and the iconic and beloved Kappa Tau house getting demolished to make way for a new university sports center. The episode was filled with happing endings (Cappie graduated! Ashleigh locked down a successful job! Dale lavaliered Laura!), heartbreaking events (The KT house was demolished despite everyone's attempts to save it! Evan ended up alone! Calvin was leaving his BFF Rusty for a semester to study abroad!), and hope for the future (Cappie and Casey are moving to D.C. together! Ashleigh and Rusty are dating! New KT president Rusty was planning to find a new KT house!). Plus, we finally found out Cappie's real name: Captain John Paul Jones!
It's been almost four years since the Greek series finale aired, and we're still not over any of it—the happy tears, the sad tears, all of the tears. So E! News decided to chat with Cappie himself, Scott Michael Foster, about the bittersweet ending of the series we all loved and lost, to find out how he felt about the finale. Plus, he gave us an update on where Cappie is today!
Even though we still cry when we think about the KT house getting knocked down (we'll never forgive you, Lasker Parkes), Foster thinks it was the right way to end the show.
"We had four years, so I think we had a good run," Foster says. "A lot of shows don't get that long. I think having it end the way it ended was sad but all good things must come to an end. I think the KT house wouldn't have been the same without the guys who made it what it was. Having it be destroyed was sad, but it was almost like that was our legacy. It went with that and now we can all move on with the rest of our lives. It was kind of cool how symbolic it was. I liked it. That way, Cappie could graduate and live the rest of his life with Casey. That's how I saw it."
Something that Greek fans can all agree on is that the final shot of the finale, with Cappie and Casey driving off into the sunset* together (*to Washington, D.C.), was the happy ending the fan-favorite, constantly-off-and-on couple deserved. But did they stay together after they left CRU? Are they still together now?!
"Yes!" Foster says with a laugh. "I think he and Casey are in Washington, D.C. somewhere, living in an apartment, while she's trying to become…what was she doing? [Laughs.] It's been so long! She was trying to be a lawyer? So she's doing that, we're living together in D.C., still in love and going wherever the wind takes us. Honestly, when I did Zero Hour last year, they were saying that's where Cappie went: he went to go work for a magazine in New York. But I would like to think that he's in D.C. with Casey, living happily ever after."
Yeah, we like Foster's theory better!
And Greek wouldn't be Greek without the parties. Oh, those themed college parties. Watching scenes of Evan, Cappie, Casey, Ashleigh, Rebecca, Rusty and Calvin partying always brought back memories of our own college days, wearing ridiculous outfits all in the name of getting drunk with your friends. Just like we couldn't pick out one favorite party, Foster couldn't pick either.
"The Great Gatsby—well, the Great Cappie party—was pretty cool," Foster says. "We all got to dress up in our Roaring ‘20s regalia, which was fun. But that's a hard question! We had quite a few parties. There was a disco party that was fun where Cappie kept trying to have a three-way. They were all fun! We basically got to film a party every week. They were all so good."
