First we get a report that the newly minted 21-year-old Soulja Boy somehow came up with a whopping $35 million to purchase his very own G5 private jet, which he supposedly planned to pimp out for an additional $20 million as a present to himself.

Only then we find the airplane story might not be grounded in reality and instead learn that Mr. Boy is considered a tax cheat, owing some big bucks to the tax man.

Um, happy birthday?

"The elaborate rumors circulating about Soulja Boy purchasing a jet for his 21st birthday are grossly overexaggerated," rep Greg Miller said in a statement TMZ, which breathlessly reported the initial story about Soulja Boy's supposed big purchase.

The bottom line on the private jet, per Miller: "Not true."

Meanwhile, Soulja Boy's camp declined to comment on a report that he owes $30,000 in back taxes to the state of California.

Per Radar, a lien was filed against the hip-hopster, real name DeAndre Way, on March 24. He also owed $3,571 in back taxes to the state of Mississippi, a debt he finally paid off last week.

Just in time to enjoy his party.

The "Crank That" MC threw down a cool $300,000 for a birthday bash he held in Miami last Friday. And he certainly has the money, having raked in $6 million this year alone from touring and ringtone downloads, according to Forbes, which ranked him at No. 18 among hip-hop's top moneymakers.

But that's a far cry from the kind of cash needed to lay out for the private plane described in TMZ's original report—especially in this economy.
