For all of you who are way more concerned with footwear than football, this week is less about the World Cup kickoff and all about the WAGs in attendance.

What's a "WAG," you ask? The acronym stands for "wives and girlfriends," meaning those of noteworthy athletes. The term was first thrown around in British tabloids referring to the attached ladies of pro-footballers—the reigning queen of which is obviously Victoria Beckham.

Today, WAGs are often Real House Wives-esque ladies who specialize in red carpet-worthy sideline appearances. While the best of the bunch include many a model-actress with a standalone career (think Gisele Bündchen), the more notorious WAGs have a reputation worthy of a drama-filled reunion show.

Now onto what you've been waiting for—here are the top WAGs you need to be watching at the World Cup!

Perhaps you recall Irina Shayk from her scorching cover on Vogue Spain, where the Russian supermodel posed in front of her totally naked boyfriend Cristiano Ronaldo, a Portuguese footballer. "Hips Don't Lie" singer Shakira will also be in Rio de Janiero cheering on her Spanish soccer-star boyfriend Gerard Pique.

And we can't forget about Sara Carbonero—voted FHM magazine's sexiest reporter in the world. Her beauty was blamed for boyfriend/Spanish goalkeeper Iker Casillas' on-field distraction, leading to a devastating loss against Switzerland in the 2010 World Cup. We can't blame the guy though—you'd have to lack a pulse not to be distracted by Carbonero.

There's also Yolanthe Sneijder Cabau, the TV-host/designer who's married to Dutch footballer Wesley Sneijder. And to round out our list, we'll be keeping an eye out for Antonella Roccuzzo, the childhood sweetheart and now wife of Argentinean player Lionel Messi.

So, which of these WAGs are you looking forward to seeing at the World Cup? Sound off in the comments below!
