Matt Bomer stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show Friday to promote HBO's The Normal Heart, but while there, the 36-year-old actor shed some insight into the upcoming feature film Magic Mike XXL.

"My understanding is that it's going to start this fall," Bomer said of the racy sequel, which Channing Tatum began writing earlier this year. "I think Channing announced recently that it's kind of a road trip film that leads to a stripper convention, which exists. It's a real life thing, and only the best of the best make it. It's a strip-off to the death...I can imagine if you lock those doors, things get a little rowdy!"

Ellen DeGeneres then gave her guest a number of stripper outfits to consider wearing in the movie.

After honking a clown horn, Bomer laughed and joked, "I think we have an early frontrunner!"

Earlier, Bomer recalled filming The Normal Heart just as the Defense of Marriage Act was overturned. "It was amazing to be there on that day," said the star, who has three sons with husband Simon Halls.

"It was one of the celebratory scenes we got to shoot in the film, which thank God, because I was doing that Kevin Bacon like elbow to knee dance that day. I was doing it a little extra hard because I was so excited," the actor said. "[Playwright Larry Kramer] was there. He took the microphone...and he said, 'We did it!' And in so many ways, he was partly responsible for that day happening, so it was just one of those moments where you feel like you're in the right place at the right time."
