Katharine McPhee has filed for divorce from her husband of six years, Nick Cokas.

The American Idol finalist and Smash actress released the following statement: (People first reported the announcement):

"After six years of marriage, and having been separated for the past year, Katharine McPhee has filed for a dissolution of marriage from Nick Cokas. The two have an amicable relationship and will remain friends. They ask that people respect their privacy during this time."

A source tells us that McPhee "is in a really good place right now."

The last year has been undoubtedly rocky for the couple, after McPhee was photographed kissing her Smash director Michael Morris in Los Angeles in the fall.

On Oct. 22, 2013, the two were seen grabbing lunch at I Panini Di Ambra in Hollywood and smooching in the parking lot before leaving in separate cars.

Neither McPhee nor Morris appeared to be wearing their wedding rings during the outing.

Morris is currently married to actress Mary McCormack and the two have reportedly since reconciled.

Morris and McCormack tied the knot back in 2003 and are parents to 9-year-old Margaret, 6-year-old Rose and 2-year-old Lillian.

And just a few months ago, Cokas and McPhee were seen out and about smiling and running errands with their three dogs.

While the two didn't exchange any PDA, they seemed to be in good spirits following the controversy.

McPhee and Cokas first met in 2005 when they performed in a L.A. production of The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. They got engaged two years later and tied the knot in Beverly Hills on Feb. 2, 2008.
