Just weeks after Sherri Shepherd's ex-husband, Jeffrey Tarpley, alleged in court papers obtained by E! News that the star's busy schedule is causing her to "neglect" their 9-year-old son Jeffrey Jr., Shepherd has broken her silence.
During a segment Monday on The View, the daytime TV personality defended working moms.
"Why do you have to go to work, why do you have to… and you are trying to explain to them mommy is trying to pay the bills," Shepherd said. "Mommy's trying to take care of you."
According to the documents filed in April in Los Angeles Superior Court, Tarpley alleges their son, Jeffrey Jr., has been neglected in Shepherd's care, adding that her "neglect" has been "compounded by poor parenting choices, refusal to provide for our child's immediate needs, not being nurtured, both mentally and emotionally, lack thereof or no judgment at all when considering skilled child care providers, and a deficiency for inventiveness as it relates to the minor child's educational needs and concerns."
Tarpley is seeking full custody of their son. He has initially asked for temporary physical custody, and requested that Shepherd get "no visitation until the court rules on this issue at the hearing."
