People say you should dress for the job you want and not just the job you have, but Tina Fey thinks there are some other key factors to take into consideration.

On Wednesday's Late Night With Seth Meyers, the former 30 Rock star shared her theory on how switching up the dress code is "how women are going to break through in late-night!"

"A lot of times these hosts get their jobs when they're like 35 or 40, and they keep them until they're 65," the 43-year-old mom of two said. "So I was like, if you're a lady, what do you wear?

"Because if you go in like with a cocktail dress, and then you're 45, you're 50...and there's going to come a day when you go, 'I don't got it! Bring me the jacket!'"

"That," she continued, "is why I think Ellen [DeGeneres] is going to be the first person to break through, because she's already wearing jackets!"

Tina also admitted that "the late-night wars are my Super Bowl," gushing, "I love reading about it, I love talking about it because i kind of feel like I know the players but it doesn't affect me at all. It's like fantasy football for me!"

Perhaps sometime in the future, though, she'll want to get in on the game herself!

(E! and Late Night are both part of the NBCUniversal family.)
