If an ensemble isn't on the red carpet yet, does it really count?

It was noticed after the fact that Kim Kardashian hadn't entirely settled on her complete look for the 2014 Met Gala until the last minute, because a photo taken while she and Kanye West were on route to the ball showed her with chunkier accessories and different shoes than the ones she ultimately wore at the event.

Knowing she must have raised a few questions, Kim took to her blog this afternoon to explain.

"Last night was an amazing time at the Met Gala," Kim began. "I was in love with my Lanvin strapless dress. Alber Elbaz helped Kanye and I get ready for the evening, which was a perfect fit because he also dressed us for the cover of Vogue.

"It was such a tough decision on how to accessorize. I left the store with a chunky belt and leather cuffs. We were going back and forth for hours if the chunky belt was right. In the car on our way there we got a glimpse of the carpet, and I decided the accessories were a bit too 'rock n' roll' and I wanted to go for something more simple and elegant."

So, she concluded, "I switched to a clean black satin belt and strappy heels at the last minute because to me it felt more classic and fit the Forties theme better. Kanye also liked it better too. Overall I thought it was the right decision and I loved the way everything came together. Xo."

And it certainly all did come together (after a bit of a hiccup in the underpants-flashing department), landing Kim on a number of best-dressed lists and making her and Kanye one of the most glamorous couples of the night.

The official theme of the Anna Wintour-hosted gala was "Charles James: Beyond Fashion," in tribute to the late British designer who was known as "America's First Couturier" for his lavish, structured styles.
