Looks like Michelle Obama is giving Vogue editrix Anna Wintour her FLOTUS stamp of approval.

As a part of the celebrations leading up to the big Met Gala on May 5, Michelle Obama will cut the ribbon at the Met's newly renovated fashion wing, The Anna Wintour Costume Center.

This year the Costume Institute gala honors legendary fashion designer Charles James, and the dress code for the ball will be white tie (meaning as fancy-schmancy as possible).

The Met gala is the fashion event of the year, and now that Michelle Obama is serving as the official ribbon-cutter for the exhibit, we have even more reasons to get excited for the big affair.

Sadly, the first lady won't be attending the actual ball later that evening, as apparently the presence of FLOTUS would probably cause a bit of a major security headache for the gala. Sigh. We were hoping we could start our "What will Michelle wear?" gown predictions.

But even though she's not going to the actual ball, we have a feeling she'll still wear something fabulous for the ribbon cutting ceremony.

The Charles James: Beyond Fashion exhibit opens at the Met May 8 and runs through August 10. Take a look at our gallery below for images from the exhibit.
