Colin Kaepernick has spoken out following the recent allegations of sexual assault, taking to Twitter to slam the latest claims.

"The charges made in the TMZ story and other stories I've seen are completely wrong," the San Francisco 49ers quarterback wrote. "They make things up about me that never happened. I take great pride in who I am and what I do, but I guess sometimes you have to deal with someone who makes things up."

He added: "I want to thank all of the people who have shared their encouraging sentiments. I assure you that your faith is not misplaced."

According to the Miami Police Department, Kaepernick is currently being investigated for an allegation of sexual assault, although the police report, which has been obtained by NBC News, reveals the investigation is in the early stages.

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Quinton Patton and Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Ricardo Lockette are also named in the report, although no one has been charged.

According to the police report, the female accuser claims that she has had a sexual relationship with Kaepernick in the past. The group met at Lockette's apartment and everyone was "talking for a while and she mixed some drinks for all of them and gave them shots."

Afterwards, the group talked and watched a basketball game, but the woman began to feel lightheaded and went to a bedroom to lay down. According to the police report, the woman alleges Kaepernick followed her and "started kissing her" and "undressed her."

She claims she soon got "completely naked" but insists the pair did not have sex.

The woman told police that while she was still naked in bed, the other men opened the door and "peeked" inside.  She says she told them to get out, but she doesn't remember anything after that moment.

She later woke up in a hospital bed and has no recollection about how she ended up there and who transported her.

"The 49ers organization is aware of the recent media report regarding Colin Kaepernick and is in the process of gathering the pertinent facts," general manager Trent Baalke said in a statement on Thursday.

TMZ was first to report the story.
