Stephen Colbert, David Letterman

It's official: Stephen Colbert is stepping into David Letterman's late night shoes.

The Colbert Report comedian will replace TV's longest running late-night talk-show host on The Late Show, CBS announced today.

"Simply being a guest on David Letterman's show has been a highlight of my career," Colbert said in a statement. "I never dreamed that I would follow in his footsteps, though everyone in late night follows Dave's lead. I'm thrilled and grateful that CBS chose me. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go grind a gap in my front teeth."

Letterman made his retirement announcement in early April, adding that he will retire sometime in 2015.

So of course a number of celebs have taken to Twitter today to congratulate the new king of late night. Here's what the stars are saying:
