Lena Dunham's Gold Sequined Gown: Glam or Tacky?

The Girls star steps out in a dress that's either perfectly over-the-top or too much of a costume

There's a fine line between opulence and that crazy stuff your aunt wore during the '70s, and Lena Dunham might be standing directly on that line with this Marc Jacobs gown.

We want to commend the frequent fashion risk-taker for another bold approach to red carpet style, but part of us feels like this glitzed up piece belongs in the disco costumes section of your local Halloween store. Is it just too much sparkle to take seriously? Or is there actually something wildly glamorous about the solid wall of shimmer?

It might be the deep copper color that's bothering us most. A lighter gold might feel less like it belongs on an episode of RuPaul's Drag Race. And the long sleeves and long skirt are also contributing to the crazy aunt qualities.

But is this far more fashionable than most of what we've been Lena in to date? Yes. And for that, the director/star/scribe should be commended, so we say glam and tacky.
