The lead Foo Fighter is now a Foo father.

Dave Grohl and wife Jordyn welcomed daughter Violet Maye in Los Angeles Saturday, according to an announcement on the band's Website Thursday. It's the couple's first child together.

"Dave & Jordyn Grohl are happy to announce the birth of their daughter, Violet Maye Grohl," the announcement reads. "Father, mother and child are happy, healthy and 'up to [their] ears in green s--ts.' "

The newborn, named after the In Your Honor singer's grandmother, was delivered at Cedars Sinai Medical Center at 4:35 p.m. She tipped the scales at 6 pounds, 15 ounces, and measured 21 inches.

She is, in her proud papa's partial words, "just perfect."

Grohl, 37, tied the knot with the 29-year-old former MTV producer on Aug. 23, 2003 at their Los Angeles home. It was the first marriage for her and the second for her Grammy-winning hubby, who divorced photographer Jennifer Youngblood in 1997 after four years together.

The couple's impending parenthood was announced earlier this year, when bandmate Taylor Hawkins revealed the news in an interview with MTV.

"We're going to be touring Europe in January and February, but we've got to be home by March, because Dave and his wife are having a baby," he said. "But I probably wasn't supposed to tell you that."

Grohl himself confirmed the news shortly after leaving the Grammy Awards empty-handed.

"I don't need Grammys anymore, baby! I'm retiring. I'm going to write a children's book. Isn't that what you're supposed to do when you have kids? Or form a kid's band," Grohl said.

In the event that Grohl does forsake the music Biz, he appears to be grooming a replacement.

In February, he claimed that he had already started playing the hits for his unborn child so as to instill the proper musical values.

"Like the Beatles," he said at the time. "Doesn't really get down to the Beach Boys. Digs Mozart."

No word on whether some of papa Grohl's own repertoire made it into the mix, but there's plenty of time for baby to catch up on her Foo.

The band has booked several dates for a U.K summer tour, kicking off June 10 in the Isle of Wight.
