E! News has learned that the Bachelor star told producers that he had a surprise for the audience and that he had lead show insiders to believe that he was going to pop the question to Nikki.
But an awkward silence set in when Chris Harrison asked Juan Pablo about what was up his sleeve.
According to a source, a Neil Lane ring was on standby at the taping just in case Juan Pablo went through with the proposal—but he didn't have it on him while he was filming.
And while we're told that the controversial 32-year-old had no real intentions of getting down on one knee, he definitely toyed with the idea to the production team.
So without a proposal, or any confirmation that Juan Pablo is in love, it seems as though the future is bleak for his relationship with Nikki.
A second source who works on the show tells us that people aren't expecting the two to stay together for much longer.
"I would give it less than a month," the insider said.
Meanwhile, an eyewitness at the taping told us that audience members "felt terrible for Nikki" and that "she seems really nice but complacent."
"Everyone was saying that it seems like Juan Pablo controls her and she just gives in," they added.
"No one left the taping thinking this relationship is going to last."
