Leave it to the CW to bring "Hot Jesus" to the masses.

Diogo Morgado, the star of The Bible miniseries and current Son of God flick, has been cast in the lead role of one of the network's most-buzzed about new projects, E! News has learned.

Morgado, 34, whose good looks have earned him the nickname "Hot Jesus," has joined The Messengers, a sci-fi drama pilot centering on a group of seemingly unconnected strangers who die after a mysterious objects crashes down to Earth. Except they soon wake up to learn that they have been deemed responsible for preventing the impending Apocalypse.

Morgado's character's name? The Man.

After starring in History Channel's wildly successful miniseries The Bible, Morgado guest-starred on ABC's Revenge. Morgado once again played Jesus in Son of God, which is currently in theaters and has earned an estimated $26.5 million in box office sales so far.

After making his debut on The Bible, #HotJesus became a worldwide trending topic on Twitter, with Morgado telling us, "I will take it as a compliment!"

Morgado joins a cast that includes Super 8 star Joel Courtney and Skins' Sofia Black-D'Eli. The Messengers comes from Teen Wolf writer Eoghan O'Donnell, with The Town's Basil Iwanyk serving as co-executive producer.
