A Man Is Suing McDonald's for $1.5 Million Because They Only Gave Him One Napkin

Webster Lucas got "stiffed on napkins" and the incident left him with "undue mental anguish"

McDonald's has been sued for many things (making coffee too hot, making people fat, so on and so forth). Some things McDonald's was rightfully sued for (using glass as an ingredient in their chicken sandwiches?). There are (probably) things that McDonald's should be sued for but haven't been. And then there is this. 

This is McNapkingate.

A California man is reportedly suing McDonald's for $1.5 million (that's $1,500,000.00 or one and one half million USD) because he says he only received one napkin with his order. 

Webster Lucas was "stiffed on napkins" after ordering a Quarter Pounder Deluxe at a Pacoima, Calif., Mickey D's last month. He claims that he returned to the counter to ask for more, to which the manager refused, telling Lucas that he had already received enough napkins.

Racial tension may have factored into the incident as well: Lucas, who is a black man, told the manager, "I should have went to eat at the Jack in the Box because I didn't come here to argue over napkins. I came here to eat." The manager, who is a Mexican-American man, allegedly "mumbled something about 'you people.'"

Afterwards, Lucas emailed the restaurant's general manager who apologized and offered him free burgers (citing their policy of "friendly service with every visit without exception"). Lucas refused the free burgers.

He wants $1.5 million.

He wrote in an email to the general manager, "I am unable to work because of the undue mental anguish and the intentional infliction of emotional distress cause by your employee."

We have literally one million questions. But here are just a few off the top of our head:

1. Not to blame the victim here, but doesn't McDonald's have a self-serve sort of deal when it comes to napkins? Over by the ketchup pumps and straws? You just pull as many as you want out of that dispenser.

2. Why wouldn't the manager just give him more napkins? Any time we have every eaten at a McDonald's, we have been inundated with approximately 1.5 million napkins. Are we on the cusp of a national napkin shortage? Is this a warning sign?

3. Is "I didn't come here to argue over napkins" the new "I'm not here to make friends"?

4. What? Why?
