Sam Worthington spent his morning in a New York City court to deal with his legal woes after he allegedly punched a photographer over the weekend.

The Avatar star was formally charged with two counts of assault in the third degree as well as one count of harassment.

He faces a maximum of one year in jail if found guilty on the charges.

He was then given a restraining order against Sheng Li, the paparazzo involved in the ordeal, and ordered not to contact Li in person, on the phone, or through any social networks.

Worthington remained silent as he left the New York City courtroom surrounded by a team of lawyers.

According to the NYPD, the 37-year-old actor allegedly punched Li outside of Benny's Burritos in Greenwich Village in New York City, after the man kicked Worthington's girlfriend Lara Bingle in the shin.

Both Worthington and Bingle were bloody after the altercation and showed their injuries to police, the manager of the restaurant told E! News at the time.

News of the altercation comes several weeks after Worthington and his ladylove were spotted wearing matching rings on their ring fingers in London—leaving many wondering if the two had secretly tied the knot.

The famous duo were first rumored to be an item back in September, but have since gone public with their romance.
