E! EntertainmentFor the record, Chelsea Handler did not purposely rip off Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon's hairstyles.
Sure, they're besties, but her path to her layered blond bob was her own, Handler assured Catt Sadler in an interview airing tonight on E! News.
"Jen got it first, I think, and then Reese..." the Chelsea Lately host mused. "I think they both got it before me, and then I cut it off. And then I realized, 'Oh God, people are going to think I'm copying them.' But it was my makeup artist's idea. She goes, ‘I want to cut your hair, I'm sick of it.'"
And Chelsea, running her hand breezily through her bouncy blond locks, is so glad that she did.
"I had to get all those gross extensions out," the author of the new comedic memoir Uganda Be Kidding Me recalled. "I had all those Russian hooker extensions in, I had no idea. I see pictures of myself, I look like a Russian hooker! Thank God I got that out of my hair—now this is my hair," she added, scrunching it between her fingers for effect. "I feel so much better."
But while on the subject of her A-list social circle, Chelsea reminded us that we've all been pronouncing one of her pal's names wrong for some time now.
"It's Reese Witherfork, I changed it. I changed her name," she told Catt. "I've changed it legally, I just didn't like her name. It didn't roll off the tongue."
Well, that's what friends are for.
Chelsea did not reveal, however, whether Ms. Witherfork was the pal who recently threw her a low-key brunch for her 39th birthday (which is today—happy birthday, Chelsea!).
"I don't want to do anything this year. I want to save up," she said. "Next year for my 40th I'm going to rent an island or something crazy. I'm going to do something huge and have a big blowout—if I make it."
We have a feeling we'll be marking Chelsea's 40th with gusto in 2015.
