Philip Seymour Hoffman

Tragedy has struck Hollywood.

Legendary actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead in his New York apartment Sunday morning, E! News confirmed, after the New York Police Department received a 911 call regarding an unconscious male shortly after 11:30 a.m in the West Village neighborhood.

He was 46.

Police sources tell E! News that Hoffman died of an apparent drug overdose, however the New York City Medical Examiner is working to determine the exact cause of death.

In the meantime, Hoffman's friends, colleagues and fans have all taken to Twitter to mourn the fallen star.
