Ever wondered what House (Hugh Laurie) would be like as a lawyer? Well, you're about to find out!

Greg Kinnear stars as Keegan Deane, an attorney with more problems than most of his clients, in Fox's new drama Rake, which premieres tonight at 9 p.m. It seems like TV viewers can't get enough of antiheroes these days, and Kinnear's Keegan is no exception, something that drew the actor to the role.

"He's a defense attorney, I haven't played an attorney before, and he has some problems," Kinnear told E! News at the 2014 Winter TCA Press Tour. "The guys whose wants and needs and influences and addictions are just this snowballing effect in his life. They effect both his life and his profession."

So just how deplorable is Keegan? He owes a whole lot of money to some shady people, he takes advantage of his friends, he hasn't paid his long-suffering secretary in a long time and almost all of the people he represents are guilty. But, like House's eccentric medical cases, Rake's cases are "a little bit off the reservation," Kinnear teased.

Kinnear, who serves as a producer on the new Fox series, has been one of the most sought-after actors for a long time, but he resisted signing onto a TV show. That all changed when he saw the original Australian version of Rake.

"I've always seen a lot of scripts and ideas for TV shows over the years, and this one wasn't really a script. I guess the advantage of it was I saw the show," Kinnear explained. "In a way it had an advantage just in the sense that it was already kind of built and had interesting DNA in it that I thought would be really cool in a show here."

Rake premieres tonight at 9 p.m. on Fox.
