NBCJimmy Fallon just revealed that the first guest on his debut episode of The Tonight Show will be Will Smith and his musical guest will be U2.
The funnyman also revealed the slow roll through which he got his coveted gig as the new host of The Tonight Show—admitting that he called Jay Leno three years ago to make his intentions known.
"After the whole Conan/Leno thing went down," Fallon told reporters Sunday, "I called Jay and said, ‘I just want you to know I'm very happy at 12:30 or 7 a.m. or whenever I am. I'm very happy here. I'm about to have a baby. And when eventually you decide to step down, let's do it the right way.' We talked to each other every couple weeks and he was always giving me advice and then eventually, he called me and said, ‘I think it's gonna be the year. And I'd love for you to be the guy.'"
Fallon explained that although it wasn't easy, he was pretty insistent on the show moving to New York.
"It wasn't easy," he revealed. "But for me it wasn't a real option [to move to LA]. I was born and raised in New York. I live there with my wife and we have a little 6 month baby. When I talked to NBC I said we should bring it back. It's been out here for 40 something years. Why not bring it back to NY? What's the worst that could happen? When I think of New York, I think of nighttime. Night life and the excitement and the glitz and glamour. Booking wise, we've never had problems. We had the president of the United States."
Fallon also gushed about his 6-month-old daughter and how much he's loving being a dad. "We got her soundproof headphones so she can come to the first show and hear The Roots and U2. Awww….
And that's not the only news about the NBC's late night line-up! Seth Meyers will be following in his fellow SNL cast member's footsteps and taking over for Fallon as the host of Late Night.
Meyers reveals that he is determined to continue fun traditions of Late Night, but he's also ready to shake things up a bit. ""We are going to have a monologue, guests, music, comedian, but the biggest way we can define ourselves is the two or three acts of comedy before the guests come out," he said.
The comedian also announced that he's bringing his former Weekend Update co-anchor, Amy Poehler, on as his very first guest.
The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon premieres Monday, Feb. 24 on at 11:30 p.m. and Late Night with Seth Meyers will premiere the same night at 12:37 a.m. on NBC.
