Creator J.J. Abrams was on hand at the NBC TCA Press Tour Sunday to promote his new "spiritual" thriller Believe (which looks jaw-droppingly good, by the way), and the TV mastermind gave the lowdown on big-screen possibilities for three of his fan-favorite TV series.
Could these shows ever come back as a movie? Here's what J.J. said:
Alias: No. "I feel like we did the Alias movie in doing the show. But I would consider working with everyone involved in that show again on anything. "
Lost: No. "I definitely feel that the work that [executive producers] Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse did on Lost, how do you do more cinematic work than that?" Abrams added that he's hoping to make Lost's 10th Anniversary panel at the Paley Festival in March, but isn't sure yet he can make it.
Felicity: "Yes, that's in the works." Of course, he's kidding. But he sure sounds up for the idea, saying, "You get The Americans off and I'll talk to Keri [Russell] about it." Truth told, we love Russell's FX series (costarring Matthew Rhys), but we will sure take JJ up on that offer as soon as it stops airing, whenever that may be!
Abrams also confirmed that Breaking Bad and Friday Night Lights star Jesse Plemons is one of the actors up for a role in Star Wars: Episode VII, however, "It's not often that I read about actors that I'm going to be meeting," he warned. "It's usually agents talking to people and it's just a lot of noise!" So don't believe every rumor floating around!
Abrams' new NBC series Believe premieres March 16 and centers on Bo (Johnny Sequoyah), a young girl who possesses supernatural powers, and the man who is broken out of prison (Savages' Jake McLaughlin) to protect her from those trying to hunt her down.
"There's a spiritual side of the show that's very deep, but we're not Touched by an Angel," Abrams said.
We are excited to see more.
