At Sunday's 2014 Golden Globes, Hayden Panettiere spent much of her interview with E! News gushing about her dress designer, Tom Ford.

"It's the first time I've ever worn him, because I've been begging ever since," she shared with Giuliana Rancic. "I feel sexy in it, I feel comfortable in it, and I'm in Tom Ford. I would wear a plastic bag if it was designed by him."

Turns out the star was so determined to don the designer she actually bought the dress—off the rack! You see, Ford usually only dresses one woman per awards show and that lucky gal was Naomi Watts. (You may remember The Impossible star was wearing a shimmer silver sheath by the American designer.)

While scoring dresses through retail is the way us normal folks do things, in Hollywood that's not the way things usually work. Red carpet gowns are lent out to stars for the night and later returned. So the fact that Hayden actually splurged on an estimated $10,000 gown is kind of a big deal. Even Ford was impressed by her effort. The 24-year-old tweeted a picture of the roses and personal note he sent her the next day, which read:

"Dear Hayden, You looked beautiful last night. Thank you for the kind words. Much love, Tom"

Well, we're guessing the next time she rocks Tom Ford it won't be because she scored it from the store.
