Tyrese Gibson has opened up about the tragic passing of Paul Walker in his first TV interview since the actor's demise.

During an appearance on Monday's The Arsenio Hall Show, the singer-actor recalled getting the sad news of his friend and Fast & Furious costar's death on Nov. 30, 2013.

"It was a lot of shock and trauma for the family and all of us involved, because he's such a nice guy," Tyrese told host Arsenio Hall. "I've never been depressed in my life, but I was very, very sad and down.

However, Tyrese said a recent trip to Dubai with pal Will Smith helped him heal.

He shared, "What gave me my smile again is really thinking about the fact I'd never seen him [Paul] cry, never seen him sad and his energy was always up so I'm like, 'Why would I be crying and sad and messed up?'"

Tyrese also took a moment to thank all those who have offered up thoughts and prayers.

"A lot of times we can take people praying for us for granted, but it's really a form of rebuilding when you're in pain and you're confused and going through things," he said. "And so, all of the prayers and tweets and Instagrams that you've sent all of us, we love you all and appreciate you all."
