Paul Drinkwater/NBCAll hail Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, the queens of ratings (and our hearts) for the Golden Globes. The 2014 Golden Globes hit a 10-year high for the awards show, bringing in 20.9 million viewers and a 6.5 rating in adults 18-49.
The Sunday, Jan. 12 telecast of the Golden Globes was the highest rated in the 18-49 demographic in 7 years—in 2007 it had a 6.5 rating. The 2004 ceremony brought in 26.8 million viewers.
Last year, the Golden Globes averaged a 6.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic and nabbed 19.7 million viewers overall. The 2014 ceremony was up 2 percent in the 18-49 demo and 6 percent in total viewers, according to Nielsen.
This is Fey and Poehler's second time hosting the awards show. Poehler took home her first Golden Globe during the ceremony too, for playing Leslie Knope on NBC's Parks and Recreation.
The stars served as hosts in 2013 and will return to helm the ceremony again in 2015. Ricky Gervais previously served as host from 2010-2012. The 2014 telecast was up 30 percent in the 18-49 demographic versus two years ago—6.5 vs. 5.0 on Jan. 15, 2012—and up 24 percent in total viewers—20.873 million vs. 16.851 million.
On Twitter, the Golden Globes generated more than 2.1 million tweets. Host and winner Poehler was one of the most tweeted about names.
