It's finally here!

The first teaser trailer for Godzilla has just been released and it's already gearing up to be one of the most-anticipated films of 2014. The two-minute clip is filed to the brim with special effects and features one frightening glimpse at the enormous creature itself.

The trailer shows a city under attack by the dinosaur-like creature, with members of the military attempting to respond to the beast and keep people safe.

And while we all know how the story goes, Gareth Edwards' new take is bound to be darker, bigger, and undoubtedly scarier.

At this year's Comic-Con, Edwards dished to a panel that his reboot would be nothing like its much-parodied predecessors.

"There's nothing sci-fi, it's very grounded and realistic," he promised.

And, he added, "I've never worked this long and this hard on something that lasted just a few seconds since, since I lost my virginity." (Ha!)

The Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures is more than just another modern-day stab at the 1954 Japanese classic; it's star-studded, as well.

The cast includes Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston, Elizabeth Olsen, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe, Juliette Binoche and Sally Hawkins.

Godzilla is due to hit theaters on May 16, 2014.
