During an appearance on Live! With Kelly and Michael on Thursday, Dec. 5, Mandy Patinkin showed off his beard-free face.
And it sounds like the Homeland star couldn't be happier about it.
"I shaved it the minute I finished the last shot!" Patinkin said about getting rid of the facial hair he had been sporting for the last couple of years to play Saul Berenson on the Showtime series. "I felt like I was taking off a Mickey Mouse mask...I also felt 20 years younger, so that was nice."
However, the 61-year-old actor admitted that, without the beard, he is now barely recognizable to fans of the show.
"The thing I loved most about it is once the show got more and more successful, wherever I go people go, 'Saul! Saul!'" Patinkin explained. "And I took it off and nobody, like, knows me. I thought, 'This is what real life is like. You go to work, you leave, you walk home and you take a rest.'"
But Patinkin assured viewers that the beard will "come back" for the popular program's fourth season, which is scheduled to air in 2014.
Meanwhile, the season three finale of Homeland airs Dec. 15.
