ZumaPress, Getty ImagesNot long after Leah Remini announced she had left the Church of Scientology in July, the former King of Queens actress claimed that she had been shunned by practicing members. "We lost friends who can no longer talk to us who are still in the organization," she said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. "But we have other friends, who are not in the church, who have stood by us and that's all we can ask for."
Remini's comments didn't sit well with celebrity Scientologist Kirstie Alley, who has been a member of the church since 1979. The Kirstie star was asked to respond to the former's public accusations during a Wednesday, Dec. 4, appearance on Howard Stern's SiriusXM radio show.
"First of all, I just want everyone to know I have hundreds of friends and people that I know who have come into Scientology and left Scientology," Alley said. "You're not shunned. You're not chased. All that stuff's bulls--t. However, I will say this: When you are generalizing and when your goal is to malign and to say things about an entire group—there are tens of millions of Scientologists in the world—when you decide to blanket statement that Scientology is evil, you are my enemy."
Alley added that she has "blocked" Remini on Twitter because she believes the former Dancing With the Stars competitor is a "bigot" and wants to keep negative energy at bay. "It's not selective," she explained. "I just won't have people in my life that are that."
It's not as if the two were BFFs anyway. "The truth is I don't think I've seen Leah for like seven or eight years, not for any other reason than I'm acting and she's acting," Alley said. "I didn't care if she was in or out."
Alley added that what people choose to believe is their decision. "I don't care what religion you are. If someone is attacking your religion, I will have your back and I will defend you. I think that is the most repulsive thing a person can do is attack another person's faith. Faith is what you look to, to have hope and to help other people. I just think it's really wrong and I think history has proven how wrong it is."
