Star Wars may take place a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, but somehow it has managed to find its way onto Instagram.

Never underestimate the power of the Force.

Yep. Star Wars now has its very own account, @starwars, which was launched on Monday, Dec. 2.

The first photo put up? None other than a Darth Vader selfie!

On the official Star Wars blog, a post directed fans of the popular sci-fi flicks to "Follow us. It is useless to resist."

Indeed! As of this writing, the account already has nearly 96,000 followers.

Last month, it was announced that the highly anticipated next installment in the Star Wars movie franchise will hit theaters on Dec. 18, 2015.

Word of the release date came on the heels of the news that Toy Story scribe Michael Arndt had exited the project and was handing screenwriting duties to Lawrence Kasdan, who was responsible for co-writing two films in the original Star Wars trilogy—1980's The Empire Strikes Back and 1983's Return of the Jedi.

With director J.J. Abrams at the helm, Star Wars: Episode VII is scheduled to begin shooting in spring of 2014.
