How I Met Your Father? It's real and it could be coming to a small screen near you.

CBS is in talks with How I Met Your Mother's executive producers Carter Bays and Craig Thomas to create a spinoff from the hit CBS series, a source confirms to E! News. Up All Night creator and executive producer Emily Spivey will also help develop the project. Our insider claims that it's all very preliminary, but discussions are on-going to extend the HIMYM franchise.

While a lot of fans theorized that a HIMYM spinoff could star the Mother, Cristin Milioti, and revolve around her time in New York before she met Ted (Thomas even joked to us about it back in 2012), Deadline is reporting that this spinoff series would feature a new group of friends and a new lead female character on the hunt for her future husband. If the spinoff goes forward, the new gang could be introduced in the How I Met Your Mother series finale, with MacLaren's Pub serving as the setting and the link between the new group and the old group.

The project is tentatively titled How I Met Your Father and will not be tied to the original HIMYM characters, Ted (Josh Radnor), Lily (Alyson Hannigan), Barney (Neil Patrick Harris), Robin (Cobie Smulders) and Mashall (Jason Segel).

Given HIMYM's popularity even in its final season and the fact that it's the network's second highest rated comedy series (behind Big Bang Theory), this spinoff has a strong chance of getting the green light.

CBS has no comment on the report.
