It's understandable if Julianne Hough wasn't up for smiling at the camera today.

The former Dancing With the Stars competitive dancer looked somber while walking her two dogs in West Hollywood Monday, which was also her first time being sighted since becoming the center of racial controversy for going out in blackface for her Halloween costume. Hough dressed up as Suzanne "Crazy Eyes" Warren from the hit Netflix series Orange Is the New Black.

Hough, who was layered up for her outing with friends today, took to Twitter to apologize for offending anyone with her getup.

"I am a huge fan of the show Orange Is the New black, actress Uzo Aduba, and the character she has created," she wrote.

"It certainly was never my intention to be disrespectful or demeaning to anyone in any way. I realize my costume hurt and offended people and I truly apologize."

In addition to the dark makeup, the Safe Haven star wore prison orange with a long sleeve gray T-shirt over her hands. She darkened her eyebrows and blond hair, which was styled just like the fictional prisoner. She completed the look with an ID tag on her chest featuring the TV character.

Hough was joined with a number of friends who also dressed as inmates from the show, including a male who dressed as George "Pornstache" Mendez.
